Somebody Will Talking Blues (Biber Herrmann)

I was working on a farm
Picking hops, chopping wood
Sixteen hours a day seven days a week
Savin’ up to buy a ticket
Take myself to Hawaii
Where the girls and life taste sweet
As I went to see the boss
Said ”I’m here to collect my pay”
He shook my hand
Hung his head and frowned
Said “Boy the times are getting bad, no spare change in my sack
Maybe welfare will but I won’t pay you son”.

He said
Not me, no, not me
‘Cause you’re a good working daddy
I’ll knock on wood that
Sometime somewhere somehow somebody will

Well, I saw this woman standing by the corner store
She was trying to catch my eye
It was plain to see
So I walked up to her and I told that girl
“You look like you wanna go out with me”
Yeah we were drinking some wine and having fun
And just as I paid the bill
Her man showed up and she hopped on his knee
I said “Wait a minute, Honey, I just spent all my money
Now don’t you wanna come home with me?“

She said
Not me, no, not me
‘Cause you’re a sugar daddy
I’ll knock on wood that
Sometime somewhere somehow somebody will

Well, the phone rang in the morning, I took it off the hook
Record executive was on the line
“I’ve heard your song boy and if you want a job get down here by nine”
I couldn’t believe my luck, put on my Sunday’s best
Went out and bought a brand new car
But when he told me he was looking for a shoe shine boy
I just cussed and swore,
“Would be a good deal if you’ll make me a star”

He said
Not me, no, not me
‘Cause you’re a good pickin’ daddy
I’ll knock on wood that
Sometime somewhere somehow somebody will

This story’s got a message and I guess you thought it would
And I’m gonna make it clear to you
See, I ain’t gonna wait ‘till the cows come home
There’s other things I’d rather do
So if you’re looking for someone to do your laundry
And do the dishes too
I’ll tell you
“Bye bye honey I’ll be out of here
before the clock strikes two”

I say
Not me, no, not me
I wont play the fool for you
But I’ll knock on wood that
Sometime somewhere somehow somebody will
